Biography

When I was a child, art was my favorite subject in school. A new box of crayons was the ultimate joy. Encouraged by my parents, and my art teachers, I pursued a degree in Pictorial Arts at UCLA. Before I could complete my studies, life intervened, as it often does, and I was launched on an odyssey that led me in quite a different direction. With my husband, I left the glittering shores of Southern California for the far more varied coast of the Atlantic. I spent the next few years sailing up and down the historically rich East Coast as a first mate and cook on several different private yachts.

Motherhood took me off the boats, but not away from the sea. As a young family we moved to St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands. Time marched on, life intervened again, and my family and I returned to the States to settle in Marietta, GA, where I became a manager for Burger King, Corp. Then I gave birth to twins and Burger King was history.

Years passed, children grew, and I turned my creative energies to quilting and needlework. One day an opportunity to teach the “Art Start” program at Woodstock Elementary School rekindled my love of the visual arts, and awakened a desire to share my knowledge with a younger generation. The wheel turned again and I returned to school to learn the art of teaching in order to teach the joys of art to others. I graduated from Kennesaw State University with a bachelor's degree in Art Education. I now teach at a middle school in Emerson, GA.

I've found that teaching has kept me interested in learning.  Serendipity provided me with a chance to learn a whole new medium, glass.  For the last two years, I have studied and practiced the art of lampwork bead making.  Making beads and creating jewelry has become a source of never ending delight for me.  One I wish I had more time to indulge.  I've recently learned some glass fusing techniques, and have added that to my repetoire of artistic endeavors.

Life has been good to me, and art makes it even better!
